Weather & Event Policies
October race mornings in Sugar Land can range from cool to warm. Review historical conditions, severe-weather procedures and the event policies that affect your race weekend.
Typical Race-Day Conditions
These historical ranges are planning guides from the event’s three most recent years—not a forecast for race day.
Recent race mornings have begun anywhere from the low 50s to the low 70s.
Temperatures have peaked between approximately 65°F and 80°F by the time the final participants finish.
Cool conditions are common, but Texas weather can also become warm or hot. Prepare for change throughout the morning.
Finish-line support: The event plans cold water and Gatorade, beer for participants age 21 and older, and chlorinated ice baths when conditions make them necessary.
Prepare for the Conditions
Check the current forecast during race week, then bring flexible options so you can adjust on race morning.
| Conditions | What It Means | How to Prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Cool start | Low 50s possible | Bring a removable layer and stay warm before entering the start area. |
| Mild start | Common October weather | Choose breathable race clothing and avoid overdressing. |
| Warm finish | Up to about 80°F | Hydrate appropriately, use official aid stations and adjust your pace as needed. |
| Severe weather | Delay possible | Monitor event communications and follow announcements from race officials. |
Race-week reminder: Historical temperatures cannot predict race day. Check the forecast again before traveling and before leaving for Smart Financial Centre.
Inclement Weather Protocol
Lightning, flooding and high winds may require a delay or course change. Athlete safety is the event’s priority.
Race management evaluates severe weather and coordinates the event response.
For lightning, flooding or high winds, the event will initially delay for 20 minutes.
If conditions do not improve, race management will continue evaluating the safest way to proceed.
The course may eventually be shortened to stay within permitting time. Any decision will prioritize participant safety.
